Grown and Sexified

This week is dedicated to the grown and sexy. You’ve been around then block, you’ve seen a few things and you know how to work a VCR, then this episode is for you.

Aging is a fun little rollercoaster of kids, job(s), finances, owning a home, aches, pains and now how the hell do I get in shape?

Olivia and Amy discuss how working out as a more seasoned person (30 and over) can get you further than in your 20’s.

We also cover what programming looks like for you now. Working hard in your 20’s means you can take a more relaxed view on fitness AKA more intensity less volume; don’t know what that means, no worries, we'll explain.

So grab yo kids, hide yo wife, we talkin' grown and sexy on this amazing Monday!

Train nasty.

Just What The Doctor Ordered: Holding Space For Others

Just What The Doctor Ordered. A mini-episode series brought to you by one half of the Nasty Girls Podcast, Olivia Pelts.

Y'all. You know we talk a lot about our "inner circle" and the importance of it. That you are, in so many ways, the 5 people you hang out with the most. Well, I (Olivia) have invited one of my "inner circle" people onto the show today and you definitely are in for a treat.

Today we are talking about the concept of what it means to "hold space" for others. We speak from our own very personal experiences about what it has looked like for us and that it literally only requires you show up with your whole heart.

When you show up for others, feel their pain (read: NOT FIX) and offer your presence...it is an amazing gift.

We'd love to know how this episode has impacted you or if it brought up any questions for you. Hit us up.

In today' episode, Olivia is answering YOUR questions. From time to time, Olivia will sit down with herself...a good friend...another counselor and chat about a question that YOU sent in. Cool.

Today's question...

"How do I learn how to prioritize my personal needs, wants, goals as a mother, wife, take-care-of-every-body-errr and not feel any guilt or shame about it?"

Grab your coffee, sit down and grab a notebook and pen. This is gonna be good.

Just What The Doctor Ordered: Core Symptom #5 of Codependency

Just What The Doctor Ordered is...BACK!

If lacking boundaries or not knowing what we need and/or want was not enough of an indicator that codependency might be present, cue core symptom #5 of codependency.

Difficulty experiencing and expressing our reality in moderation.

The ability to moderately know what we are feeling, how to express it even how we behave is difficult. This key symptom affects our body, our thinking, our feelings and our behavior. It affects every aspect of our reality.

Let me show you what I’m talking about...

Finding Your Edge: How Traveling Can Transform Your Life

We have a fascinating human on the nasty girls podcast today. If you've ever wondered what a life coach is or why you probably need one, we have the answer to that and so much more.

Antesa Jensen is the founder of Adventure Awake. They take you to an unknown location away from the comforts of your home, coach you into a better person and you leave a more whole version of yourself. It isn't easy to get into one of their trips, either. You have to interview to see if you're a good fit and if you're truly open to your life being transformed.

We also spend time discussing connection. If you feel disconnected and discouraged, Antesa shares tips and ways to guide you back to your true purpose. This was truly one of our favorites episodes we have done.

Oh, Antesa also has an online 6-week course that is coming up Nov. 1. Inquire more on her website!

Just What The Doctor Ordered: Core Symptom #3 of Codependency

Core Symptom #3 of Codependency....difficulty owning your own reality. Woo, girl. This one gonna hurt...

Oftentimes, those who grew up being ignored, attacked, or abandoned–in any way–likely struggle with owning and accepting their own reality.

What if you grew up in a great home...could you still struggle with this? Absolutely.

Pia Melody looks at one's own reality in 2 ways: 1. knowing your reality but not stating it for fear of rejection/not being good enough/not having the right answer/being abandoned. 2. Not knowing your own reality and thus not being able to express it.

Being able to know your own reality...your thoughts, feelings, experiences...it's a beautiful thing but if you've been hurt enough times maybe it's just best you keep that to yourself.

We're going there and talking about ways in which we all struggle to own and express our own reality, our own experiences and feelings.

Your feelings, thoughts and experiences are unique to you. Own them.

Boundaries. They are sexy when someone has them and it is gross when someone lacks them. Bleh.

In today's episode, we are talking all about them. What are boundaries to the 4 different types of boundaries, as seen by Pia Melody in her awesome book "Facing Codependency."

Relationships: How to avoid under water basket weaving and find authentic community

Friends.... how many of us have them? Besides us (hehe)... do you want more friends and if so do you know how to attain them? This week we are covering how to make friends as an adult (obvi we can’t just go to the park and ask people to be our friend).

We can all agree, it's not easy as an adult to make friends but are you self sabotaging yourself into a life of 18 cats and a knitting club membership? We give you all the tips on how to make meaningful relationships in your life and what to do if you struggle with connecting with others.

Olivia and Amy go over two very different types of personalities that could be causing you your solo trips to the beach. So, could it be YOU that's causing this issue? If it is, we got ya back! Check out this week’s episode to dig into some self reflection and make meaningful, lasting relationships with others.

Have fun!

Just What The Doctor Ordered: Core Symptom #1 of Codependency

We are stoked to get this baby launched! It's super apparent to us that there is a lack of solid information around mental health and we'd like to stand in the gap and bring some knowledge, insight and understanding. Olivia, since she IS the resident therapist at NGP HQ, will be spearheading this up. Here's what you can expect:

1. Just What The Doctor Ordered will be much more brief than our regular episodes.

2. Olivia will be flying solo most of the time. Amy may pop in every now and again and a guest may, too, but largely you'll be chatting--er, listening--to Olivia

3. Topical discussions, book discussions, answering specific questions that are sent to us by YOU.

4. Always a good time.

Enjoy the show!

Codependency. You may not be able to really explain WHAT it is but you know it's bad, right? Olivia is going to unpack it for you over the next 5 weeks as she dives into the 5 core symptoms of codependency. Hold on to your hats, kids.

Do us a favor: go buy Pia Mellody's book "Facing Codependency" and walk alongside Olivia as she unpacks these big concepts.

Enjoy!

MINISODE: 13 Reasons Why We Love Mental Health Part 2

Wow. It is incredible how much incredible feedback we have received from our last episode: 13 reasons why we love mental health. Seriously. Mind-blown.

We figured that it was a big enough topic for us to come back and do a little minisode...and Olivia felt like she wanted to better explain a few areas that she just couldn't get to in the last episode. ;o)

So, we explored ways we self-sabotage, what the heck is codependency, why shopping around for a counselor is a super good idea and connecting with those around you because we're all going through something.

Check out our facebook to WATCH us if you'd prefer :)

Enjoy!
